The 205th Sheffield St Catherine’s Scout Group has had four members of its troop selected to represent South Yorkshire at the World Jamboree in Japan 2015.
Paul and Kirsty Whelan will be representing South Yorkshire and Sheffield Catholic scouting in the World Jamboree next year.
For a very small scout troop the 205th has done very well over the years. It is just over 70 years old and in that time has provided scouts twice before to represent the city.
In 1957 Robert Taylor was the first when the troop was just 14 years old. His Jamboree was at Sutton Coldfield. Twenty five years later Paul Gerrard had the same honour, this time in Norway 1982.
Now thirty three years on Paul and Kirsty are off to Japan.
Scouting in Sheffield, especially Catholic based, is becoming a rarity. These two young people will be representing more than the city and county. Your prayers are needed not just for Paul and Kirsty as they take this huge step in life, but also for this great institution of scouting to continue to develop.
