The National Council and Annual General Meeting of the Union of Catholic Mothers took place at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick from 19-21 May. Mrs Delia Fox, as Diocesan President, led the group from the Hallam Diocese.
In a tight agenda there were reports from the National Committee and the National Officers and included voting for the next National President, who will take office in May, 2015. The result of the voting saw Mrs Val Ward of the Shrewsbury Diocese elected as President.
The beautiful Liturgy was prepared by the Salford Diocese and the clergy were led by our National Ecclesiastical Advisor, the Rt Rev Terence Brain.
In the afternoon of Tuesday, 20 May the Council were delighted to welcome His Eminence Cardinal Vincent Nichols who, in his address, praised the work of the Union of Catholic Mothers and the support that we give all aspects of family life. The Cardinal then answered questions that had been posed by some members of the Council.
A large group photograph was taken on the lawns of the Conference Centre, on what was a beautiful summer’s day. His Eminence is a warm approachable priest. He graciously stayed to have photographs taken with small Diocesan groups. Below is our photograph of Cardinal Nichols with representatives from the Hallam Diocese.
