The Sheffield Half Marathon is reputed to be one of the hardest and most gruelling in the country. As we all know, Sheffield is built on seven hills and the course definitely makes the most of that fact.
That said, it also boasts one of the most scenic routes in the UK. It starts and finishes in the city centre and takes in some of the Peak District’s most spectacular views.
Is this the reason why Fr Andrew Browne and Marie Grant return to it every year? In fact this year they even talked one of the SVP Furniture Store drivers, Declan Healy, into joining them.
Early on Sunday, 10 April, Fr Andrew, Marie and Declan lined up alongside thousands of other runners from all walks of life, many running for various charities and worthwhile causes. Our trio had been collecting sponsorship pledges for weeks prior to the run and all money collected was in aid of St Vincent’s Furniture Store.
It was a perfect day for the run, and all three crossed the finishing line in very respectable times.
All monies have now been collected and the final figure is a whopping £2022.68. So as the title suggests, ‘those hills were definitely worth it’.
Everyone at the Furniture Store would like to thank Fr Andrew, Marie and Declan for completing the Half Marathon in aid of our charity. The money collected will go towards buying 30 new beds for children throughout the city who do not have anything to sleep on.
Lorraine Healy, Manager, commented, “As I have said many times before ‘amazing people do amazing things’ and Marie, Declan and Father Andrew you are all AMAZING.
“If you are interested in joining our trio in next year’s Half Marathon which takes place on Sunday, 9 April 2017, please contact the Furniture Store for details on how to sign up.”
