Carmel Care and Counselling Centre in Sheffield has been opening its doors and welcoming those experiencing social isolation, loneliness or addiction for thirty years.
This landmark was celebrated on 13 October at an event attended by Bishop Ralph and friends and supporters, both old and new, and one of the centre’s founders, Sr Maire Morris. Testimonies were given by volunteers and those who attend Carmel, which is open three days each week. One commented, “When I come to Carmel I feel weighed down but I go away much lighter; I take the spirit of Carmel back home with me.” The occasion was made even more special by the presence of Bridget Warren, who has been sorely missed at Carmel due to ill health.
