This month, we think about a very important event in Jesus’ life here on earth; the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist.

John was the cousin of Jesus (he was the son of Elizabeth and Zechariah), but he was also a preacher, a teacher.  He was sent to tell the people, who had done wrong, to repent.  When we repent we turn back to try to live the way we should.  We admit that we have made bad choices, say sorry, and ask for God’s forgiveness.

John told the people that he would baptise them with water so that they could wash away their sins.  John didn’t want to baptise Jesus, as he had never done anything wrong, but Jesus knew that this was part of God’s plan for him.  The Baptism of Jesus reminds us that we, like Jesus, can be children of God.

You can read more on the baptism of Jesus in the Bible; Matthew 3 Chapters 1-17.
