Parishioner, Marian Johnson relates a fun-filled day of surprises at St Paul’s, Cantley.

George exhibits his pictures

The sun shone and the event brought together family, friends and visitors young and old, from near and far.

The artist at work

Many in the parish family were unaware of the wonderful artwork of one of our very own parishioners, George Cooper.  George will tell you this is truly a God-given talent, because he has never been given art lessons.  He draws his sketches through spiritual guidance.

George’s dream has always been to give back to God and the Church by fundraising through his artwork, but was unsure how that could realistically be achieved.  Through humility his sketches were concealed away in his bedroom, until a visitor passed by.

Encouraged to bring them out of hiding George showed them to his Parish Priest at St Paul’s, Fr Evangelist Ohaejesi.  Father was “blown away” and was so enthusiastic about the pictures that he invited George to display the sketches at the Summer Fayre.

Grateful thanks to St Paul’s, St Peter-in-Chains and McAuley Catholic High School for the loan of easels, which greatly enhanced the presentation of this amazing artwork available in both A2 and A4 sizes.  Thank you so much to all who enabled George to present £360 as a donation to Fr Evangelist towards Parish funds.

If other parishes would be interested in helping George to fulfil his dream, for proceeds towards your own parish fundraising, please contact George on mobile: 07974 963935 or home: 01302 530335.

Our very own Masterchefs provided further enjoyment, when they presented their cakes.  The International Food Fayre was delicious; appetising aromas drifted around the fun-filled gardens.  Various stalls offered games, competitions, children’s books and other interesting items including a Bouncy Castle.  The red T-shirts of HCPT 101 making a striking and very welcome presence too.

Talents abounded even further with the colourful Irish dancing, and playing of the bagpipes.  A final surprise was surprise, a very talented Fr Evangelist playing an instrumental on the drums!!    A wonderful day of friendship, fun and Parish Family togetherness.
