Time has flown since the last Bishop’s Walk but we are delighted to announce that Emeritus Bishop John has promised to come out of retirement and walk with us once again. The newly appointed Bishop of Hallam, the Rt Rev Ralph Heskett who we warmly welcome, has also been invited to take part and so we are hoping that we will have ‘two Bishops for the price of one’!
The route this year is as always a secret, but it may give a clue when we reveal that it is being nicknamed the ‘Dambusters’ walk. Also joining us this year will be head teachers from local schools, priests of the diocese, staff, volunteers and clients of the Centre.
This year is a very critical time for the Residential Fund as Director, Kevin Bradley recently announced that the fundraising total has gone over £1m. In their efforts to raise £1.8m, Kevin is urging people, “Please sponsor the walkers, and in doing so help the homeless and vulnerable.”
Talk about Ramadan
In an effort to bring communities together St Wilfrid’s was delighted to welcome three young people from Al Khair group to tell staff all about Ramadan. They faced some very difficult questions posed by the clients at St Wilfrids which they handled eloquently, and gave us a great insight into the meaning of Ramadan. It also taught us that one of the most important things is to respect each other’s religions and beliefs.
