Gifted Sheffield music student Lizzie Beard is well on her way to success after winning a prestigious scholarship at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.Lizzie Beard s

The scholarship enables the Mount St Mary’s College pupil to study singing at the celebrated music school in Scotland, meaning that she’s one step nearer to her dream of becoming an opera singer.

The 17-year-old from Stanfree, Chesterfield, has been a leading light during musical showcases at her current school in Spinkhill, Derbyshire.  She has also already taken part in numerous concerts with the internationally renowned Cantamus Girls Choir and will also be joining the choir again when they tour Italy in April.

Being in the limelight it seems is something that Lizzie will need to get used to, although being in the spotlight is something that already runs in the family as her older brother, Matthew, is an actor having been in films such as An Education and One Day.

The scholarship is a culmination of years of hard work and working long days as she fits in singing lessons, rehearsals and performances around her school work.

Lizzie said, “I didn’t dare imagine that I would win a scholarship at the Royal Conservatoire and so when I heard I was thrilled.  I am so excited to be going to the Conservatoire.  It’s a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to it.”
