On the Third Sunday of Easter St Francis of Assisi Church in Sheffield celebrated two of their servers receiving Silver Medals from the Arch-confraternity of St Stephen (the servers’ Guild).

Lucy and Peter, both 18, attend Notre Dame Catholic High School, Sheffield.  The Headmaster, Mr S Davies, and Chaplain, Miss S Gomes, attended the celebration and presented Lucy and Peter with their certificates from the Guild.  Mrs B Twomey from their former primary school, St Marie’s, Sheffield, also joined them for their celebration, making this a community celebration of joy.

The Parish Priest of St Francis of Assisi, Fr Kevin Thornton, had arranged the ceremony in the Easter period to help the parish carry on with their celebration of the great feast.  Everyone agreed this was a great success.

The acting Diocesan Director of the Guild said, “Peter and Lucy have both served in their parish since their First Communion and represented their parish by serving at the Mass for the Installation of Bishop Ralph.  In addition, Peter is server to the Latin Mass Society in the Diocese and Lucy is a member of the Lourdes Youth Group.  They are now jointly training officer and parish MC for a community of 15 servers.  Their award recognised their commitment and leadership, and especially the role model they provide for younger servers.”
