Following the sad death of a colleague’s husband in July, three members of staff from Sacred Heart School in Hillsborough, Mrs Kelly, Head Teacher, Mrs Tauiliili and Mrs Thorpe, decided to run the first ever Race for Life Half Marathon, in his memory.
The event took place at Lee Valley Park in London on Sunday, 4 October. This was also the first ever all women half marathon so the ladies are now part of history! None of these teachers had ever run a half marathon before, so much training and dedication had to take place before they could tackle the 13.1 mile course.
The sun shone down on a glorious morning as the girls began their run through the park, out into the countryside, along a canal tow path and eventually back into Lee Valley Park. All three ladies were delighted with their times and added to this was the knowledge that they had raised an incredible £1,500 for Cancer Research UK. Huge thanks go to all the parents, friends and family who helped them raise this incredible amount for such a worthy cause. The community of the Sacred Heart is very proud of the team.
