The Annual Padley Pilgrimage took place this year on Sunday, 12 July, the date when travelling priests Nicholas Garlick and Robert Ludlum were captured at Padley in 1588. They were convicted of treason on 23 July, 1588 and were executed the following day at St Mary’s Bridge in Derby.
Our photographs show the pilgrims, who celebrated Mass together, experienced Padley’s unique atmosphere and acknowledged the sincerity of the faith of people who lived in darker times and who went to death for their faith.
