Proclaim 15 is a project of the Bishop’s Conference of England and Wales, launched in 2015. It is designed to affirm the good work that is already being done by the Catholic community and to provide resources and events to profile and develop new expressions of Catholic joy and missionary outreach.
As part of the Proclaim initiative, the parish of Our Lady and St James, Worsbrough have worked hard to take the church out into the community, especially by helping the elderly and those living in sheltered housing join in community events, and thereby helping enhance their lives by socialising with others. Each week they hold a social and bingo session in the local community centre.
The parish also hold an annual Ecumenical Advent Service. Representatives from Barnsley and Doncaster Churches join in this event.
The service comprises of readings, poems, prayers and hymns. This is followed by refreshments and a raffle. Everyone who attends the service receives a Christmas bauble to hang on their tree, wishing them the blessings of Christmas from the parish of Our Lady and St James, Worsbrough.
This year the event raised £275, which was donated to the Barnsley Churches Together Drop In Project, to help feed the homeless over Christmas.
