St Mary Magdalene’s parish, Maltby, is delighted to have two priests in residence – Fr John Adikwu CM, new parish priest, and Fr John Nwadike CM, assisting priest, both of whom are Vincentian priests from Nigeria.

Fr John Adikwu sThursday, 23 October was a day to remember for the parish.  Fr John Adikwu was formally inducted as parish priest by Bishop Ralph.  The church was packed with parishioners and visitors from Fr John’s former parish in Abbeywood, South London.  Mr John Foden, the Mayor of Rotherham, Mr John Carratt, the leader of Maltby Town Council and Rev Dhoe Craig-Wild, vicar of St Bartholomew’s Church, Maltby, were also present.

Fifteen priests concelebrated the Mass, including Bishop Ralph as chief celebrant, priests of the Rotherham Deanery, Fr Sixtus, Nigerian Provincial and former colleagues of Fr John from Abbeywood.

The joyful Mass was followed by a reception in St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Hall.

Fr John’s former parishioners expressed their sadness at losing him and St Mary Magdalene’s parishioners promised to look after him and his friend, Fr John Nwadike!
