Holy Family Catholic Primary School in Worksop were proud to welcome Emeritus Bishop John on 10 June to officially open their newly refurbished library.
Representatives from each class in the school gave Emeritus Bishop John an insight into the development of the library, which links to the school’s prayer room, enabling both areas to be used for the celebration of Masses that are held on a regular basis. A beautiful painting showing scenes from the Bible lights up the prayer room, and a sliding screen opens into the library with its bright new shelves and walls decorated with quotations from children’s books.
There followed a short liturgy, when Emeritus Bishop John blessed the new library after telling the children about his love of books, and how he would soon be “boxing up his collection” to take to his new home in Liverpool.
Emeritus Bishop John then visited all the children in the school in their classes, answering challenging questions such as “Did you feel privileged when you were chosen to be a bishop?” “Yes – very” And, “What advice would you give to someone who was having trouble following the Ten Commandments?” “Pray…”
