Pat Smith of the Sheffield Walsingham Association remembers her friend, Joan.

A Requiem Mass was held at St Theresa’s Church on Saturday, 20 January for Joan Mary Duggan, a well-known and respected member of the Walsingham Association, Sheffield Branch.

Joan was born in Rotherham and moved, as a child, to the newly developed Manor Estate.  St Theresa’s was her parish from then on.

She joined the Notre Dame Past Pupils Association and was national president three times.  She also served as Secretary and Chairperson of the Sheffield Walsingham Association.

She loved her parish, was a long standing member of the choir and put her organisational skills to work.  Joan, as her friends would tell you, liked things “done properly”!  She would have loved the solemnity of the Requiem, which was well attended by parishioners and friends.

Joan never married, but was closely involved with friends, their children and grandchildren and was always busy with associations and parish.

She died peacefully on 5 January at Brackenfield Hall, aged 96.  We will miss you Joan.

  Rest in peace.
