On 8 October, 14 members of The Annunciation parish, Chesterfield, plus 3 students from Sheffield University, hiked up Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District, to enjoy a day out in God’s wonderful outdoors.

Led by Fr Lee Marshall, from The Annunciation, we were a mixed age group ranging from agile 20yr olds to a steady plodder on the wrong side of 70! After leaving Edale village, we crossed the fields and went up the traditional ascent route of Jacob’s Ladder to arrive on the top of Kinder by midday.

The Holy Spirit looked after us, by ensuring the day stayed dry, and Fr Lee celebrated a wonderful, moving Mass in God’s own open-air Cathedral.

In his brief homily, Fr Lee reminded us that God favoured high places and always made his Covenant with man on mountain tops.

A packed lunch was eaten while enjoying the High Peak vistas, and then we made a slightly easier descent back to Edale, in time for a well earnt pint in the Ramblers Inn.

A truly wonderful and blessed day – Thank You Fr Lee.
