This year, St Mary’s Catholic High School in Chesterfield celebrates its 150th Anniversary.  As many people will know, Leonie Martin published an extremely successful book at the beginning of the year to commemorate the school reaching this amazing milestone.

St Marys High School with statue sCelebratory events are set to continue throughout the year and include a very special Garden Party arranged by the St Mary’s Alumni Association.  On Saturday, 27 June both St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and St Mary’s Catholic High School will open their gates to friends, parishioners, former teachers and past pupils.

The Headteacher of the High School, Mr McClafferty, said, “We are planning for food, music, reminiscence, good company and much, much more.  This is a wonderful opportunity for the people and the parishes who have contributed to the building and growth of the school to come together and celebrate what they have all been a part of.”

Mrs Apps, Headteacher of the Primary School, said, “We’re delighted to be able to invite the wider school community and the parish into our school as part of our Anniversary programme.  We have some exciting things planned for the morning, including a walk through the school’s history.  Come along and celebrate with us, and see just how different things were when the school first opened compared to the modern school of today”.

The Primary School will open to guests between 10am and 12noon, and the High School for the Garden Party from 11am to 2pm.  Both schools run Facebook pages where more information about the Garden Party is available.  Or for more details, please email Margaret Dunham, mailto:margaretmdunham@yahoo.co.ukor call her on 01246 811123.
