Emigrating to the land of the Long White Cloud has been a protracted affair for Rev Deacon Richard Booker and his wife Margaret. Now though their wait of several years to emigrate is finally over. Richard and Margaret have joined their daughter, Louise, and her family and the family of their late son, Simon, in New Zealand.
Following a lifetime of working in the nursing profession, Richard has spent the latter years as an active Catenian in Barnsley as well as serving the Barnsley Deanery as a deacon since 2007. Nobody could devote the time to this and raising a large family without the support of a wonderful wife, as Margaret says!
Bishop John and the Barnsley Catenians joined family, friends and parishioners as they bid Richard and Margaret farewell. When thanking people for the many gifts and cheques they received, Margaret and Richard said that the gift of the friendship and family they are leaving behind will be what they treasure most.
