Will you be making your First Holy Communion in May or June?  You may have already made it or perhaps you will be making it next year.

Communion is the sharing of the body and blood of Jesus in the same way as Jesus shared himself with his special friends at the Last Supper on the night before Jesus died on the cross.  Jesus took some bread and blessed it saying, “Take this all of you and eat it …”  And he took some wine and blessed it saying, “Take this all of you and drink from it …”  Jesus has told us to do this too.

In our Mass, we are invited to share in this meal in Holy Communion.  During the Mass, the priest asks God to change the bread and wine that is brought to the altar into the body and blood of Jesus.  We know that this happens during the Eucharistic Prayer.  You could listen carefully to this Prayer when you are next at Mass.

When people come forward to receive Communion they are all offered Communion in “both kinds”.  This means that Jesus is offered to us all as bread and wine in the same way that Jesus gave himself to his special friends at the Last Supper.  If you do not yet share Communion, you can still go forward and receive a blessing from the priest or minister.

The first time you receive the body and blood of Jesus is a very special time.  You will be further along your journey with Jesus and you will then be able to receive him in Communion every time you celebrate Mass.

Wonder …

I wonder what you like the most when you receive Communion or a Blessing?

I wonder what the most important thing is when you receive Communion or a Blessing?

I wonder when you feel close to Jesus in Mass?

Thoughts and Prayers

Jesus will soon be coming to you in Holy Communion for the first time.

Write down some things that you would like to say thank you for.
