On the Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Patron of our Diocese, Deputy Heads and RE Subject Leaders from Sheffield Catholic Primary schools gathered in the Houlden Hall at St Marie’s Cathedral for a day of prayer and reflection.
Alan Dewhurst and Sr Susan lead the morning session on prayer. Staff were invited to move at their own pace around a series of prayer stations containing various props as varied as ‘Gospel Footwear’, ‘Touching the hem of Jesus’ cloak’ and ‘My Compass’. The emphasis was on Ignatian Spirituality, recognising difficulties in prayer and staying with them, so as to go deeper in faith.
All were agreed that these stations would work very well with the children and staff in school as well; indeed some schools are already using them with great results.
After a very reflective morning we joined a wonderful midday Mass in St Marie’s Cathedral concelebrated by Bishop Ralph, Fr Chris Posluszny, Fr Gus O’Reilly and Fr John Cooke. It was the ideal end to a morning spent growing our own relationship with God.
After lunch the Deputy Heads continued by planning priorities for the 2017-18 year so as to most effectively serve the school communities in which they work, as well as promote their own continuing professional development.
Participants thanked Sr Susan and Alan Dewhurst for a truly grace-filled morning, and Bishop Ralph, the clergy, the staff and volunteers at St Marie’s and all the fellow worshippers who helped to make the day so memorable and blessed.
