On Monday, 2 October the staff and pupils of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Primary School, Balby, welcomed dignitaries and invited guests to the blessing of the new building within the school. Among those attending were Bishop Ralph, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Doncaster, representatives from Doncaster Local Education Authority and the Doncaster Deanery, as well as the Schools Department of the Diocese of Hallam and Hallam Caring Services.  Executive headteacher, Mrs Bernadette Nesbit and her staff were also pleased to welcome members of the Board of Governors from both St Francis Xavier and Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Stainforth.

The morning began with a warm welcome from Mr Joe O’Connor, Assistant Head at St Francis Xavier, who referred to the day as a day of celebration for the children and said that, “We have started a journey which will take St Francis Xavier to be a place of excellence in learning and teaching”.  Mr O’Connor also referred to the exceptional level of support from the Diocese and Doncaster LEA.  Class members of Year 6 presented a short assembly on ‘New Beginnings’ which was warmly greeted by guests.  Following the blessing by Bishop Ralph, everyone enjoyed a guided tour of the school, visiting each classroom and spending time with the children.

The leadership team of St Francis Xavier would like to thank everyone for their support, their generosity and all the goodwill from which the school has benefited.
