On Saturday 7 June 2014, members of a choral group called Sinopia performed a fantastic concert in St Helens Church, Oldcotes to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
A representative of the British Legion said, “Members of the Royal British Legion and other concert goers were made most welcome by the church members, and were treated to an excellent concert in magnificent surroundings.
“The evening was made extra special because two Normandy veterans were in attendance, 91 year old Geoffrey Thompson and 95 year old Edward(Ted) Deedes.
“It was truly an excellent example of the church reaching out to welcome other people in their community. Phillipa Thomas who organised the concert has confirmed that it raised £625 for the Royal British Legion. This money will be used to assist serving and ex serving personnel and their dependents at their time of need.
“On behalf of The Royal British Legion I would like to say how grateful we are to the church, Sinopia and James Williams for choosing this charity to support and all their hard work in putting such an excellent evening on.”
