Chesterfield Catenians have recently held two events at which presentations were made to local charities.
At the first of these, Brother Past President John Dixon gave a cheque for £500 to Deborah Fennell, the Volunteer Manager of Ashgate Hospice, Chesterfield, which was his President’s Charity for 2013/14.
A sum of £1000 had already been donated following a successful Charity Concert which had taken place last summer. The remainder had been raised through a variety of sources including monthly raffles and Brothers making donations in lieu of sending Christmas cards to each other.
The photograph shows Deborah receiving the cheque from Brother John.
Fundraiser for School in Africa
A coffee morning initiated by the Chesterfield Catenian Ladies Group held at the home of Brother Jon and Catherine Spooner raised £485 in support of a project run by St Mary’s Catholic High School, Chesterfield, for the benefit of children in Burkina Faso in Western Africa.
In the past, St Mary’s raised £30,000 to build a primary school, also called St Mary’s, in Burkina Faso. The Chesterfield school has continued to support its African counterpart in numerous ways and is now in the process of raising funds to maintain and improve the school.
