Bishop Ralph visits Happy Hands Pre-school and St Ann’s Catholic Primary School

The community of Happy Hands Pre-School and St Ann’s welcomed Bishop Ralph and sent the Hallam News their account of this special event.

At Happy Hands the children, staff and parents welcomed Bishop Ralph enthusiastically, showing him around our Ofsted rated “outstanding” nursery.  It was his first time visiting Happy Hands and St Ann’s School where there was lots to see and talk about.

The Bishop was extremely interested in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and all the associated activities we are involved with: – from holding coffee and chat sessions for parents; fundraising for the nursery and other groups; participating in the Valley Music Festival alongside ensuring that the children are learning through play and having lots of fun at Happy Hands.

The children liked the Bishop’s warm and sensitive manner and he engaged with their questions, particularly about their interest in his dog Molly.  The Bishop will bring Molly on his next visit to Happy Hands.

A Mum of three talked with the Bishop about the wonderful welcoming experiences she encountered when joining the church community.  This had a big part in the family choosing Happy Hands and St Ann’s school for their children.

At St Ann’s School Bishop Ralph met with all the children, visiting each classroom where they excitedly and enthusiastically demonstrated all that they had been up to this year.  Bishop Ralph was able to share some of what he does in his role as Bishop and the children, in their inimitable way, asked the Bishop a range of searching questions!  At midday Bishop Ralph joined the children for lunch in the school hall.  At the end of his visit, Bishop Ralph commented on the excellent behaviour, attitudes and participation demonstrated by the children at St Ann’s.

We would like to thank the Bishop for taking the time to visit our lovely school that we are so proud of.
