Barnsley Catenians enjoyed a full day out recently when they visited the National Memorial Arboretum.
The Arboretum offered special significance to Ken Barry and his wife Anne Marie as their son, Iain, is currently serving in the armed forces.
Similarly, their friend, Margaret Parr, needed a moment of quiet reflection after she found her father’s name and army details in the list of Japanese prisoners of war.
Following the sombre mood of the Arboretum spirits were lifted by a guided tour of Lichfield Cathedral, and raised higher again by a pub meal on the way home. A day thoroughly enjoyed by all as evidenced by the smiles outside the cathedral.
